March Space: Romantic Balcony

Espacio_abril_2011 The Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife opens the Romantic Balcony to the public on March. Every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sundays, from 8:30 to 18:00 hours, to March 14, and from 8:30 to 20:00 hours, from March 15 to March 31, the tourists who access the monumental complex, will have the opportunity to know this space closed to the public visit due to conservation matters, presenting the general ticket.

At the end of the Water Stairs, in the highest part of the Palace of the Generalife, we find this small balcony, builted in 1836 by Jaime Traverso who was administrator of the cottage of the Generalife, which was modified later. This Balcony of Neo gothic style makes an enormous contrast with the rest of the Complex and it could also make contrast with the founded traces of what could be a Muslim Oratorio, according to some authors.

We stand out the privilege location inside the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra and Generalife, were unique views of the city of Granada and the Monument can be seen.

Chronology: 19th century, 1836.

Highlights: The contrast between the architecture and the location of the Balcony in regard with the Nasrid Monument.
